BARCELONA, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The economist and professor at the Abat Oliba CEU University (UAO CEU) Joaquín Solana has defended that delaying the retirement age is “necessary” not only for financial reasons but also for the physical and cognitive health of the population, reports the UAO CEU in a statement this Monday.
In her thesis ‘Longevity, new challenges and opportunities for management and entrepreneurship’, Solana argues that, due to the increase in life expectancy and the reduction in the birth rate, “every human being born today has a higher probability 50% of reaching 100 years. “
In his opinion, this data invites us to rethink the parameters on the professional stages, the retirement age and even the very concept of retirement and has argued that the division of life into three stages – education, active life and retirement – ” comes to an end “.
Thus, Solana details in her thesis a series of proposals for companies such as introducing the elderly to special part-time projects and taking advantage of their experience and knowledge to mentor young people “with a lot of preparation but little exposed to the reality of work”.
He has assured that there are “very meritorious” initiatives by retired people who advise on business projects but has criticized that the legislation is, according to him, restrictive in terms of combining pension with paid activity.
