Exports of spices across the seas continue to boom

Exports of spices continue to grow in the country. The recovery of the Covid crisis and the elimination of problems in the shipping sector has boosted exports. At the beginning of the current financial year, the export sector faced a decline. In the first five months, the export of spices was down by 5 percent. Cumin, Coriander, Chili, Mint etc. are mainly exported.

Growth of exports to 450 dollars in fiscal year 2023. The growth was 4.13 billion dollars during the same period last year. Compared to the previous year, this year there has been an increase of 9 percent. About 15 to 20 percent of the spices produced in the country are exported. The rest is mainly used for domestic consumption.

According to estimates, the annual production is around 11 million tonnes per annum. Spices are mainly exported to China, Bangladesh, US, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Malaysia.
