The Governing Council of the Junta de Extremadura has authorized the contracting of the construction works of the new Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Extremadura, in Badajoz, with a tender budget of 11,359,322.77 euros , and, in addition, it approved the extension of alert level 3 throughout this autonomous community to contain the epidemic outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the perimeter isolation for the same reason, in Aliseda and Vegaviana.
The construction of this new Faculty, which is financed by FEDER funds, is fundamentally due to current teaching needs. Thus, it will house the three current degrees of the Faculty of Medicine (Medicine, Physiotherapy and Nursing), in addition to the School of Health of the Extremadura Health Service (HIS).
This project will be carried out through the construction of a single building, which will be executed in two phases and will be divided into four clearly differentiated areas: for students with a classroom area; mixed with common spaces and services; of direction; and departments. The first phase will address the student area with a classroom area, the mixed area with common spaces and services and the management area, in addition to the exterior and interior urbanization, with a total built area of 10,134.36 square meters; while in the second the departmental area will be built, with a constructed area of 7,415.92 square meters.
