For the first time in 25 years, multiple car makers will supply official cars for each race in 2021. Aston Martin will supply a specially equipped version of the Aston Martin Vantage for safety cars and the Aston Martin DBX for medical cars.
Both Aston Martin Vantage and Aston Martin DBX will be colored in “2021 Aston Martin Racing Green” with lime green accents.
Mercedes-AMG, which has been supplying official safety cars and official medical cars since 1996, will supply Mercedes-AMG / GTR and Mercedes-AMG / C63 S Estate as safety cars and medical cars, respectively. The two will be painted bright red and will carry the logo of the American cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike, which has become the official partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team’s safety car.
Aston Martin’s safety and medical cars will debut at the opening round F1 Bahrain GP on March 28, and Mercedes-AMG’s rebranded safety car will appear at Round 2 F1 Emilia Romagna GP on April 18. .. For the rest of the 2021 season, the supply will be shared between the two manufacturers.
German-born Bernd Mayländer will continue to hold the steering wheel of the FIA safety car at each Grand Prix, while South Africa’s Alan Van der Melwe will continue to be the driver of the FIA medical car.
