Faced with a possible connection with Caso LED: The doubts that remain for Daniel Jadue and his presidential race | National

In the same week that they raided his municipality, new antecedents hit the mayor again Daniel Jadue in the investigation for the Luminarias case.

A report by La Tercera revealed today telephone calls intervened by the Investigative Police between Jadue’s lawyer, Ramón Sepúlveda, and the general manager of Itelecom, Marcelo Lefort, to coordinate donations of 50 million pesos to Recoleta, after in 2018 This company will be awarded a tender in the municipality for more than $ 10,259 million pesos.

Recoleta Mayor Daniel Jadue confirmed that he himself asked Lefort for donations, but he flatly ruled out being linked to any type of illicit financing and maintained his willingness to cooperate in the investigation.

“I have never requested or received any money for any campaign”said the mayor.

Likewise, the mayor’s lawyer through his Twitter account confirmed that in the past he worked for the manager of Itelecom, who is currently in preventive detention for the LED lighting scandal, but denied having offered money to the communist mayor, for which showed his willingness to collaborate with the Prosecutor’s Office.

Given this new background, the UDI deputy, Juan Antonio Coloma, assured that if the seriousness of the events is confirmed, the mayor of Recoleta should leave his presidential career.

“If this is confirmed, it is clear that Daniel Jadue cannot be a candidate for the presidency of the Republic or for the re-election of the mayor of Recoleta,” said the parliamentarian.

For his part, the president of the Radical Party, Carlos Maldonado, defended the presumption of innocence of the mayor of Recoleta, but also questioned his current presidential aspirations.

“Someone who is being investigated for a possible case of corruption cannot be a presidential candidate,” Maldonado said.

Meanwhile, the criminal lawyer, Carlos Gajardo, who was also a prosecutor in the Penta and SQM cases, linked to irregular financing in politics, hopes that the Public Ministry will finally assert its autonomy to get to the bottom of the investigation.

Let us remember that the Itelecom firm is today being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office in at least a dozen municipalities, for having awarded millionaire tenders for led lights between 2016 and 2020, and is accused of a possible bribery and illegal financing of political activities.
