Many teams tried to come up with something worthwhile, but did not succeed. The creators were not even able to offer a clear vision of the continuation of Half-Life. In 2017, Mark Leydou, who worked for Valve for a long time and left the company in 2016, published a script that described the events that occurred after the second episode. However, Walker said that Valve did not then make a final decision about the continuation of the history of the series.

In the end, Valve decided to make Half-Life: Alyx for virtual reality, as the creators saw the strengths of virtual reality and dealt with specific tasks in the development process of the game.
