“Fatal Head-On Collision Claims Lives of Two, Including a Mother of Two, and Closes Road”

A fatal traffic accident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 9:30 a.m. on the N97 near Biron to Ciney. A VW T-Cross car came from Dinant with a man of British origin aged just under 60 and a Dutch-speaking woman born in 1979 as the passenger. For unknown reasons, the car deviated from its trajectory, crossed the road, and collided with a Peugeot 2008 coming from Hamois. The 37-year-old mother of two driving the Peugeot tried to avoid the collision by swerving to the car park at the height of the bridge but was unsuccessful. Unfortunately, both drivers died instantly, and the passenger in the VW T-Cross was hospitalized in serious condition. Three ambulances and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene. The roadway is closed in both directions, and diversions have been set up by the local police. The Namur public prosecutor’s office has been informed, and an expert must examine the site. The Mayor of Ciney has also visited the scene of the tragic accident, and the cause of the fatal loss of control is suspected to be the driver’s faintness.
