It is the day of yours, the day of the military. The day in which the Royal House shows its closeness to the Armed Forces and the King, to his comrades in arms. This Thursday, on the day of Military Easter, Felipe VI will recognize the actions of its members in the aid of those affected by the eruption of the volcano in La Palma and by the unremitting activity of the Armies against the Covid.

The Monarch has already made reference on previous occasions to the work carried out by the Armed Forces in the fight against the pandemic. This Thursday remember the operation Balmis, developed after the viral outbreak, and in which its role was key to cleaning facilities and the transfer of medical supplies.

But I will also mention the Operation Baluarte, still underway and in which the Armies strive to trace the trail of the infected to put up containment dams.

The King will explain how the military, today, is playing an essential role in strengthening vaccination systems. After the emergence of the micron variant, images of uniformed soldiers giving vaccines throughout Spain followed one another.

Sanitary limitations

The intervention of the Monarch took place days after his Christmas speech, in which he defended the Constitution as a norm to unite Spanish society, and aroused enormous criticism from the nationalists who support the Government of Pedro Sánchez. Don Felipe has always defended in his Military Easter speeches the constitutional role of the Armies and their importance in the unity of Spain.

Again, the event took place with enormous limitations for health reasons. In the Plaza de la Armera del Palacio Real a reduced military parade will take place and presided over by the Monarch. Inside the Palace there will be a brief reception in which the King, accompanied by the Queen, the President of the Government and the Ministers of Defense, Margarita Robles, and Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, greet the military commanders.

Subsequently, the Minister of Defense will take the floor, who will carry out a global vision of the actions of the Armed Forces during the course that has concluded. The act will conclude with the intervention of the Monarch.

During the speeches there will be a special memory of the military displaced abroad and participating in international missions. The entire operation carried out by the military in Afghanistan, which allowed the departure of a significant number of cooperators who worked for the Armed Forces during the mission, will also have a special role.

A year ago, the day was marked by retired soldiers who questioned the Government in private chats and who even launched coup slogans.
