Ferrari F1 representative “solving the lack of speed against Red Bull with the new rear wing”[F1-Gate .com]

Mattia Binotto, F1 team representative for Scuderia Ferrari, said the new low-drag rear wing introduced in Baku improved the linear speed and performance of the F1-75 and reduced the shortage for Red Bull.

Brought to the Miami Grand Prix, but never used, the Upper Rear Wing ran for the first time in Azerbaijan to Race Weekend.

Scuderia Ferrari was near the bottom of the race’s main speed trap, but was close to the top in qualifying when tow and DRS activation had a big impact.

Mattia Binotto said that when Charles Leclerc was trying to keep him away from Max Verstappen, the wings worked well both with the DRS open in qualifying and in the normal configuration in the race, F1- He said it helped improve 75.

The rear wing features a long straight, including this weekend’s Montreal, and may be used in several upcoming races that prefer a Lawson setup.

After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix race last Sunday, Mattia Binotto said, “I don’t think there was a big disadvantage to Red Bull with this kind of downforce. The speeds were very similar.”

“In the qualifying I saw yesterday, with DRS on and today with DRS off, it was enough to keep Max straight and defend, at least in battle.”

“Overall, I think the rear wing is working as expected. It works with the same downforce as Red Bull and I’m confident that it can be used without major problems whenever it needs to be used.”

Meanwhile, Scuderia Ferrari continues to investigate the mechanical failure that caused both cars to retire in Baku.

Charles Leclerc’s power unit will be inspected in Maranello Wednesday, but the team has already identified the hydraulic problems that plagued Carlos Sainz Jr.

“Charles’ engine will arrive at the factory tomorrow. The first evaluation should be completed by the evening,” Scuderia Ferrari said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The hydraulic components of Carlos’ cars have already been investigated. Short-term fixes are being made for Canada, but medium- to long-term solutions are underway.”

After Baku, Mattia Binotto claimed that the team remained united while trying to deal with the problem.

“But I can’t blame the team because I know the effort they’ve put into their performance. It’s been a long way and I wasn’t enthusiastic at the beginning of the season,” said Mattia Binotto.

“As I said, that’s the journey we’re on, and there’s still another step we need to take. We want to reunite as a team and work hard. We’ve done the right job so far. I know the work isn’t done, but we get it done. ”
