FilGoal | News | Guardiola conference: How do Evra and Berbatov speak after you destroyed them in the Champions League final?

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola responded to the statements made by Patrice Evra and Dimitar Berbatov, Manchester United players, after he was strongly criticized after the defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg and bid farewell to the competition.

Evra and Berbatov accused Guardiola of not being able to train players with strong personality, while they said players join City only because of money.

Guardiola spoke at a press conference held today, Friday, saying: “Our character was the same with us, we lost from Real Madrid in the last minutes.”

“Previous players like Berbatov, Evra and Seddon were not present when I played against them,” he continued.

And he added sarcastically, “I did not see that character when I destroyed them in the Champions League final, when we destroyed them in the final against Manchester United.”

Barcelona beat United twice in the Champions League final, in 2009 and 2011, with two goals and three goals, respectively.

“We didn’t have a personality to contend two goals in two minutes? But we had two chances to score goals and we don’t have a personality?”

He continued, “In the last four games, we scored 23 goals. We have an incredible personality. I’m sorry, but I do not agree with what is said.”

Guardiola stressed, “Personality is what we have done in the last five years and every three days. For example, Liverpool may win four trophies this season or one championship, but can we say that they have no personality? Or they did not play a good season.”

“Of course they have character, but sometimes there are some things in football that you can’t control,” he added.

He continued, “When we constantly reach the last stages, the semi-finals or finals we play a lot of matches, and this is the most important thing.”

And about Aymeric Laporte, he said: “He is still receiving treatment, and we will see tomorrow who can participate on Sunday.”

City will visit West Ham next Sunday in the 37th round of the English Premier League at the London Olympic Stadium.

City leads the standings with 89 points, three points ahead of Liverpool.
