Liverpool star Sadio Mane revealed that he was not expecting to move to the last in 2016 in the presence of coach Juergen Klopp, who refused the player earlier.
“I didn’t expect Liverpool to be interested, I was thinking more about Manchester United,” Mane said in an interview with the English newspaper, The Times.
“It was a difficult time for me, I was sitting on the bench and I didn’t expect a team to ask me, but I was happy when Klopp did and he didn’t think I was a rapper,” continued the 27-year-old Senegalese.
Earlier, Klopp refused to sign Manny when he was the first coach of the German Borussia Dortmund team and the last to play in Austrian Red Bull Salzburg.
“I remember my first meeting with Sadio, he was in Dortmund,” said club manager Liverpool in the documentary “Made in Senegal” narrating Mani’s career.
“There was a little boy sitting, wearing a hat like a baseball player, with a yellow streak in his head. It seemed to me like a rapper starting his career. I said: I have no time for such things.”
“I used to say I had a good feeling towards people, but I was wrong. I followed his career and continued success in Salzburg. In Southampton, he was incredible.”
Mani is now one of the best footballers in the world and ranked fourth in the 2019 Golden Ball Award and crowned the title of Best African Player.
Mane participated in 161 games with Liverpool, scored 77 goals, sent 34 assists and crowned the team with the Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
