On November 10, at 9 p.m., Jean-Marc Parent will be back on TV after 24 years of absence. The recording of these four shows takes place, through a vast technical device, on the occasion of ComediHa! Fest.
Three hundred thousand watts of lights, 60,000 watts of sound that can generate 115 decibels, the sound of a Formula 1, the armory vibrated on Monday during the visit of the film set.
Jean-Marc Parent was visibly happy when the opening theme of this future show took the media out of their heads.
“It wasn’t strong. When you listen to it loudly, it’s a roundabout ride, ”he dropped, specifying that maximum power would be deployed for a few minutes.
The storyteller and humorist admits that this return to TV, which will be on TVA, was not part of his plans. Satisfied by the indoor shows, he admits to having been difficult to convince.
“I demanded a series of conditions that were impossible to meet. I asked too much for a car and they said yes, ”he said in an interview.
He wanted to work with the “gang” of the days of JMP Hour and he had requirements regarding the number of lights and the sound power deployed.
“The technology that was in place during the two seasons of JMP Hour, was the best. Twenty-four years later, we are elsewhere. It’s like a car with new possibilities. We take them, ”he said.
Jean-Marc Parent loves sound and everything that is technical. The theme of JMP is, at its request, very techno. Which does not mean that rock will be absent.
“I can’t do without the big, heavy rock,” he remarked, with fire in his eyes and a huge smile on his face.
Jean-Marc Parent is clear. It is not about the return of JMP Hour. The Mercedes Band will not be brought back to life and it is not in their plans to ask the public to flasher the lights.
The five shows recorded in front of the public, in an armory, with a floor and walkways that can accommodate the public, will become, after an editing operation, four one-hour programs.
Beginning of a tradition
The 59-year-old storyteller and humorist takes the stage every evening, without text.
“I have a few words written on the floor and a direction in my head. It allows me to go where I want, ”he said.
Jean-Marc Parent will tell new stories, some that he has never been able to complete, and explain how he has built some of his acts, such as those of the disabled and the boat.
Jean-François Blais, who produces the four programs based on the five shows, aims to recreate, on air, the kind of disorganization found in Jean-Marc Parent’s shows.
“We don’t want it to sound like a TV capture. I am working, for the first time, without a roadmap. We try to follow this disorganization present in live shows to make it appear on the air. We invent. We are not in the conventional “, he explained.
“I don’t have the impression, after two evenings, of recording a television show at all. We like it, ”remarked the comedian, specifying that it could, if success were to go, be the start of an annual tradition with the ComediHa! Fest.
