For now, the Corps Firefighters from Cundinamarca confirmed that the situation is being addressed with seven fire departments in the jurisdiction.

Guatavita does not have a Fire Department because the agreement has not been updated. “He is supporting Firefighters Guasca and Sesquilé and they are doing the whole articulation process to see what other requirements we need on the site,” said Captain Álvaro Farfán, delegate of Firefighters Cundinamarca.

Captain Farfán confirmed that, for now, 15 hectares of native forest have been affected.

In turn, the Governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García, indicated that he requested the support of a helicopter to put out the fire from the air.

“In the village of Tominé in the municipality of Guatavita there was a fire that we are attacking from the ground with @RCUNDINAMARCA, firefighters from Suesca, Sesquilé, Cogua, Guasca and Gachancipá, as well as with the Police and the community. We have already requested support from a helicopter for the attack from the air,” tweeted Garcia.

According to two inhabitants of the area who spoke to this medium, the emergency began around 10:30 am in the upper part of the mountain, in an area that is difficult to access.

“The situation has been difficult because it has not been possible to control it through the human resources of firefighters. We are very concerned about seeking help so that the helicopter arrives as soon as possible,” said one of the witnesses.
