First 100% Moroccan smart charging station for electric cars

The first intelligent charging station for electric vehicles, 100% Moroccan, called “iSmart”, was presented on Monday in Rabat, in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid. Elalamy.

Developed at the request of manufacturers in the automotive sector by the Green Energy Park, a research platform set up jointly by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and supported by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and the Green and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and the Environment, “iSmart” represents a new generation of smart charging stations for electric cars for professional and home use.

Speaking on the sidelines of this ceremony, Mr. Elalamy said that electricity is taking precedence in the automotive sector significantly, noting that this smart terminal is a highly technological product that meets the needs of Moroccans, who own electric cars, and which constantly need recharging.

Morocco has been investing in the automotive sector in a serious way for years, he said, affirming that “this sector is in the process of transforming completely, gradually, slowly but surely towards renewable energy, with electric priority ”.

Moroccan engineers have managed, as often, to achieve high quality innovations, he said, noting that the ministry is supporting them to be able to industrialize and transform this process, which consists of several stages.

It is about moving from prototype to industrialization, supporting with subsidies, when necessary, to have subcontractors and that the whole ecosystem is complete and can have an integration rate. more importantly, Elalamy said in a press statement.

Industrialized in 2022

It is also about marketing in Morocco, via support to have places (installation in gas stations …) and agreements with all possible distributors as well as opening up to international markets with products. Moroccans of high added value

For his part, Badr Ikken, Director General of IRESEN, noted, in a press statement, that it is the first electric vehicle charging station developed, designed and designed and manufactured in Morocco, specifying that it will be industrialized from 2022 and with a production of 5,000 terminals per year.

This is an excellent example of technology transfer, he said, pointing out that the terminal offers several advantages including fast charging, 4G connectivity, a control and monitoring platform and an integrated projector allowing the projection of information and publicity.

With powers ranging from 7.5 kW / 22 kW / to 50 kW, Mr. Ikken raised that the station quickly charges a small car in 30 minutes. “Its design is modular and can be integrated at the wall level, fixed on feet or integrated into the candelabras”, he said, noting that this initiative accompanies the decarbonization of the mobility sector and industrial valorization thus allowing the emergence of a sector.

As part of the green ecosystem, in its sustainable mobility component, a production line for this new generation of smart terminals will be installed in Benguerir in 2022, with the support of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and green and digital economy for the industrialization of this project.

For the industrialization of this terminal, subcontracting partnerships will be developed with manufacturers operating in particular in plastic injection, thin sheet machining / bending, laser cutting and the manufacture of electronic cards. A fast terminal with a capacity varying between 20 kw and 60 kw is also being developed for future marketing.
