Five rules for the condominium

The rent brake makes renting less attractive. Many owners have therefore divided their rental houses and converted the rental apartments into property. That could soon be over, because building minister Horst Seehofer wants to make it more difficult by law to convert rental apartments into owner-occupied apartments. Existing condominiums could therefore become scarce.

It is all the more important for prospective buyers to take a close look at the offer and the respective community of owners. Cynics claim that condominiums combine the disadvantages of renting with those of home ownership. This is an exaggeration, but it has a real core to it. Because the owner owns the living space, but the facade already belongs to the community. In contrast to tenants, the apartment owner has to finance construction work immediately. And unlike in a single-family house, the neighbors live next door – without any safety distance.
