The English Football League has just authorized, again, the possibility for a team to make five changes during a match. But the measure does not concern the Premier League.
A majority of Premier League coaches, foremost among them Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), have still not been heard. The coach of the Three Lions, Gareth Southgate, neither.
They want to be again authorized five changes per game for a team, instead of three currently, due to a schedule overloaded by the coronavirus pandemic and the upsurge in injuries.
This is what the three other professional divisions of the country, below the Premier League, have just obtained, after a vote, until the end of the season. It is therefore a return to what was put in place at the time of the “restart” last spring, when the 2019-2020 financial year had to be completed.
The five changes, authorized by the IFAB (International Football Association Board), are in effect in all major European Championships, with the exception of the Premier League, therefore. For that, it would be necessary that fourteen clubs out of twenty vote in its favor. Two votes have already resulted in a rejection.
