Sao Paulo: Brazilian football legend Pele passed away. He was 82 years old. Died at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo after colon cancer. He was admitted to the hospital after his health deteriorated. Pele’s daughter confirmed the death on Instagram.
Pele is a player who won the World Cup three times for Brazil. These titles were in 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups. Pele is the only footballer to own this feat.
He was born on October 23, 1940 in Tres Coracos, Brazil. Father João Ramos do Nascimento Doninho and mother Celeste Arantes. In 1956, at the age of fifteen, he started playing with Brazil’s famous football club Santos. Santos made his senior debut on September 7, 1956 against Corinthians. Pele also added a goal to his name in that match, which Santos won by seven goals to one.

He made his debut for Brazil on July 7, 1957 against Argentina. That was when he was 16 years and nine months old. Pele scored in the first match.
He debuted in the World Cup in 1958. It was the first major tournament of his career. Pele came to Sweden with a knee injury and scored a hat-trick against France in the semi-finals. With this, Pele holds the record of being the youngest player to score a hat-trick in World Cup history. He also scored a double in the final against Sweden. Brazil won the title by defeating Sweden by five goals to two. Pele, who scored six goals in four matches, was selected as the best young player of the tournament. He also won the Golden Ball in the 1970 World Cup.

His last match in the Brazil jersey was against Yugoslavia on 18 July 1971 in Rio de Janeiro. He left after scoring 77 goals in 92 matches for the Yellow Army. Pele ended his professional career six years later. On October 1, 1977, Pele retired during a match between New York Cosmos and Santos.
