Kuppuswamy is recorded by the sports world and time as a brave goalkeeper who did not wait for the net in the early days of Indian football.

Kuppuswamy was a member of the Indian team that won bronze in the 1970 Asian Games. He has represented India in about eighteen international competitions. The bronze medal in 70 is the career best. He was part of the Indian team in the 1970 and 1971 Merdaka Cup and the 1971 Pesta Sukkan Cup. He was also a member of the team that won the Santosh Trophy for Karnataka at the domestic level. Has also worn boots for Services and Goa.

Kuppuswamy made his Nationals debut in 1965 in Kollam. Even after retiring from active football, he was busy molding players at the local level. Died at the age of 76.
