Laporta is no stranger to Barcelona. He was the club president from 2003 to 2010.
After Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned in early December, Laporta ran as a presidential candidate. He has already garnered 10,257 signatures, leaving behind three other candidates, namely Victor Font, Toni Freixa and Emili Rousaud.
One of the Laporta tasks, if selected later, must be able to make Messi last. La Pulga’s contract will expire in June 2021, which is now under the eyes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
“We need a competitive sporting offer. He is a winner and he wants to win with Barcelona,” Laporta told Sky Sport.
“I will do everything possible, there are many who want him and we will need an important offer. Money does not guarantee titles,” he continued.
Messi was previously reported to have spent too much Barcelona money due to high salaries. However, Laporta emphasized that the Argentine player has also provided financial benefits to the Blaugrana.
“Messi generates more income than expenses, his expenses are eight per cent of the total, he generates 30 per cent of the revenue for the club,” Laporta revealed.
“It is profitable for Barcelona but the most important thing, which is priceless, is to ask a child who is the best in the world. They immediately mention it. Messi, “he said.
Barcelona just got crushed more in the first leg of the last 16 of the Champions League. Ronald Koeman’s team were crushed 1-4 at the Camp Nou.
