Rockets targeted, at dawn today, Friday, sites southwest of Damascus, causing material damage, according to the official Syrian news agency, SANA, accusing Israel of launching them.

This is the second Israeli strike near Damascus in less than 24 hours, as two Syrian soldiers were wounded in an Israeli bombardment at dawn Thursday near the Syrian capital.

On Friday, SANA quoted a military source as saying, “At exactly 12:17 a.m. today (21:17 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with bursts of missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting a site in Damascus countryside.” .

The source added, “Our air defenses intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down a number of them,” noting that “the aggression led to some material losses.”

Before that, SANA had indicated that “explosions were heard on Friday after midnight in the vicinity of Damascus.”

Military sites of the Syrian regime and forces loyal to Iran

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Israeli missiles targeted military sites of the Syrian regime and the pro-Iranian forces in southwest Damascus.

The Observatory added that the missiles destroyed a weapons and ammunition depot, without mentioning any casualties.

This month, Israel carried out six air strikes in Syria, according to the Observatory.

Last week, Aleppo International Airport in northern Syria was subjected to the second Israeli bombing during the month of March. According to the observatory, a weapons depot of pro-Tehran groups was targeted, which led to the vital facility being out of service for two days.

Over the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting sites of the Syrian army and Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah targets, including weapons and ammunition depots in separate areas.

Israel rarely confirms carrying out strikes in Syria, but it repeats that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran’s attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
