Before she died, the former Miss USA winner posted a pre-death Instagram photo with the caption, “May this day bring you rest and peace.” Very committed to criminal justice reform, Cheslie Kryst had put her career as a lawyer on hold to run for Miss North Carolina, before being elected Miss USA in 2019, at the age of 28. The young woman represented the United States in the Miss Universe 2019 pageant and finished in the top ten.
