Since 2015, through the National Plan for Nuclear Medicine, the construction of 11 centers distributed in different points, including the province of Formosa, was contemplated in the country for the creation of Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Centers with state-of-the-art equipment in public hospitals. .

The work of the Nuclear Medicine Center, located on the grounds of the High Complexity Hospital in the capital of the province, showed a high degree of progress but was neutralized during the previous National Government and was reactivated with the current one. The state-of-the-art medical center has state-of-the-art equipment that has already been installed and will allow diagnosis in the areas of cardiology, neurology and oncology, as well as the treatment of various pathologies.

The completion of the Nuclear Medicine Center, achieved through the subsidy, will have a direct impact on the health of the local population, especially for those patients with specific diseases who will be able to access treatments and diagnoses in their province, as well as reaching to other provinces in the region.

These projects with great impact on society are a joint development of the National Secretariat of Energy, the province of Formosa, CNEA and specialized state companies. At the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy, the CNEA authorities were able to learn about the background, the status of equipment acquisition, the related services, the necessary authorizations by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) and the status of the Foundation that will manage the Center.
The facilities have a Brachytherapy and Radiotherapy sector, which is 100% complete, and the radiopharmacy sector, with 80%. The acquired equipment is a PET/CT System, a Cyclotron Radiopharmacy System, two high-energy linear accelerators (APR), a high-dose brachytherapy equipment, a simulator tomograph and a C-arm equipment.

Formosa was the only NEA jurisdiction included in the National Nuclear Medicine Plan, to carry out the construction of a
medical center for nuclear medicine and radiotherapy, equipped with infrastructure, technology and linear accelerators for the application of treatments. The Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy, soon to be inaugurated in Formosa, will be for the care of cancer patients and other highly complex pathologies. Likewise, it will guarantee equitable access to quality treatments and early diagnoses.
