The EC GRAND Immo VSV had to admit defeat to the HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie 5: 4-SO despite being in the lead four times. It was the HCI’s second victory over the VSV in the second duel of the season. In the table, Innsbruck remains in eighth place, Villach is still eleventh.
The guests got the better start to the second season duel between HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie and EC GRAND Immo VSV. Raphael Wolf scored the 1-0 for Villach in the second minute of the game. But the lead did not last long, because 48 seconds later Samuell Herr was 1: 1 in the power play. As a result, it was still the offensive of both teams that created numerous opportunities.
There were large defensive gaps on both sides. And so it only took until the ninth minute of the game before the next goal was scored. Chris Collins increased to 2-1 for the Carinthians. The goal came from a defensive mistake by Innsbruck. But this time too, the VSV leadership did not last long. In the 13th minute of the game, the HCI managed to equalize again through defender Jonathan Racine-Clarke. For the Canadian it was the first goal of the season. Just four minutes later, Villach took the lead again. Martin Ulmer scored his fourth goal of the season. With the score of 3: 2 for the eleventh place in the table from Villach, it went into the first third break.
In the middle section, the defenses of both teams stabilized, which resulted in significantly fewer scoring opportunities. Although the VSV was closer to 4: 2 over long stretches, Innsbruck scored the only goal. 19 seconds before the end of the third Jan Lattner met in a power play. Only a few minutes earlier, the Czech defender had the chance to equalize with a penalty. However, the 30-year-old failed due to VSV goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis.
In the last third, the guests got off to a better start. Jerry Pollastrone scored 4: 3 after two minutes and 35 seconds after a strong individual action. But the tour only lasted for a short time. Daniel Ciampini scored just one minute and 40 seconds later to equalize the table eighth from Innsbruck. Then both teams had further chances to decide the game in regular time. But since neither team succeeded in this, the game went into overtime.
In this Innsbruck had a power play early on, but could not create any great opportunities. Shortly afterwards, the VSV was also awarded a power play. But the Villacher did not manage to score the decisive goal either. So the decision had to be made in the penalty shootout. In this, Braden Christoffer and Max Gerlach met for the HCI. No player was successful on the VSV side. Thus Innsbruck prevailed with 5: 4 after shootout. It was the second victory of the Tyroleans over the Carinthians in the second duel of the season.
