Paris – The National Assembly rejected, on Monday evening, the second motion of censure, tabled by the deputies RN (National Rally), following the government’s recourse to article 49.3 to have its controversial reform project validated, without a vote. pensions, which led to the adoption by Parliament of this reform.
After the rejection by only nine votes of the first so-called “transpartisan” motion, that of the far right (RN) only won 94 votes out of the 287 necessary for the government of Elisabeth Borne to be overthrown.
Just after the rejection of the first motion of censure, the deputies on the left waved signs on which it was written “we continue”, “meet in the street” or even “64 years old is no”.
In a press release, the deputies of the Freedoms, Independents, Overseas and Territories (Liot) group, at the origin of the first motion of censure, “regretted” the “negative rejection” of their motion. “Despite today’s vote, the government has lost the battle for pensions”, they add, calling for “not to promulgate this law” or to “allow the French to vote by submitting this reform to a referendum”.
The oppositions have already announced referrals to the Constitutional Council, which will have to decide before the promulgation of the highly contested reform project, which notably provides for the postponement of the legal retirement age to 64 years.
After the adoption of the law by the Parliament, the President of the Republic has fifteen days to promulgate the law. However, if at least sixty parliamentarians seize the Constitutional Council, this period is suspended.
