Faced with the epidemic of bronchiolitis, but also of influenza and Covid-19, “the barrier gestures will, there too, protect us and protect us”, explained the Minister of Health François Braun on BFM TV this Friday, December 9.

In infants, bronchiolitis is reaching record levels not seen in over 10 years. This epidemic, as well as those of influenza and Covid-19, are simultaneously impacting an already very strained healthcare system. Should schools and nurseries be closed, like what was put in place at the height of the pandemic?

Not according to the Minister of Health François Braun.

“Bronchiolitis affects children under 2 years old, he recalled on BFM TV this Friday, December 9, sweeping away sanitary measures at school. The closure of nurseries, “I say no because the barrier gestures will, there too, protect us and protect us”, justified the minister.

“It’s super serious”

An opinion that some doctors do not seem to share. Wednesday, in the Telegram, Véronique Despert, head of pediatrics at the Rennes University Hospital, felt that it was necessary “consider closing schools right now. Children catch the virus at school and pass it on to their little brother or sister. We must also stop family reunions. From a scientific point of view, there is no other way”, she warned.

“It’s catastrophic”, noted Véronique Despert. “We see that the bronchiolitis is more serious. The flu, too, is stronger, which makes it easier for parents to come. And to that is added a little bit of covid”, added the pediatrician, hammering: “It’s super serious and I don’t know if the message got through.”
