Paris: The dawn in the women’s singles semifinals of the French Open. Not a single player in the top ten seed made it to the semis. Seventh seed Pavlochenkova, Seedilla’s Tamara Sidansek, 17th seed Maria Zakari and Seedilla’s Barbara Krejikova are the other newcomers to the last four.
Maria Zakari of Greece advanced to the semifinals after defeating eighth seed and former champion Iga Sviatek. This is Zachary’s first Grand Slam semi. The Greek star’s victory was for straight sets. Score: 6-4,6-4.
Krajikova knocked out 24th seed and 17-year-old Coco Goff to advance to the semifinals. The Czech won the first set against Gauff through a tie-breaker and easily won the second set 6-3.
Slovenia’s Tamara Sidansek advanced to the semifinals after beating Spain’s Paula Badosa in a three – set bout. When Tamara won the first set, Paula fought back in the second set. But Tamara eventually won the decisive third set tiebreaker. Tamara also made history by becoming the first Slovenian player to reach the Grand Slam women’s singles semifinals.
31st seed Pavlochenkova defeated 21st seed Elena Rybakina. Elena won the first set after a tough fight but easily surrendered in the second set. Pavlochenkova won the tiebreaker 9-7 in the third set.
Meanwhile, third seed Rafael Nadal advanced to the semifinals in the men’s singles. Nadal defeated 10th seed Diego Swartzman of Argentina to win the semi – final. The match lasted four sets. This is the 14th French Open semi – final of Nadal’s career. Score: 6-3, 4-6,6-4,6-0.
