The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 20th that the Promulgation of a Partial Amendment to the ‘Act on Promotion of Development and Distribution of Eco-Friendly Vehicles’ (Eco-friendly Vehicle Act) was approved at the Cabinet meeting on the 20th. According to the amendment, the obligation to install electric vehicle chargers, which was applied only to new facilities among existing apartments and public facilities, will be expanded and applied to already built facilities (existing facilities).

As of 2019, new buildings for apartments and public facilities were 70,000 dong, but existing buildings amounted to 1.4 million dong, 20 times more than this. If you look at the type of charging for electric vehicles, 34% of them are residential. The proportion is larger than that of public institutions (32%) or multi-use facilities (16%). For this reason, it is expected that the convenience of electric vehicle owners will increase if the installation of chargers becomes compulsory for existing buildings. However, the ratio of mandatory installation of electric vehicle chargers according to the number of households in the existing facilities will be determined after revision of the enforcement ordinance.

In addition, the amendment made it mandatory to open electric vehicle chargers built and operated by the public sector, such as the state, local governments, and public institutions, to the general public to the extent that security and business performance are not hindered.
