Gérald Darmanin bans the coming to France of a Salafist preacher

Gérald Darmanin prevented the coming to France of a Yemeni Salafist preacher who was to participate for three days in conferences at the great mosque of Chilly-Mazarin (Essonne), announced, Wednesday evening, December 7, the Ministry of the Interior .

The visit of the Yemeni Salafist Sheikh Al-Mohammedi to Chilly-Mazarin on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was part of a European tour which took him to Rotterdam (Netherlands), Cologne (Germany) and Molenbeeck (Belgium) where he gave a conference on Wednesday evening, the ministry said.

The Minister of the Interior issued an administrative ban on territory (IAT) to prevent his arrival.

In explaining this decision, the department focused on the “words attributed to this Salafist preacher, or at least the hadiths [recueil des actes et paroles de Mahomet et de ses compagnons] which he uses in support of his interventions”. According to the Ministry of the Interior, Jews and Christians are there “qualified as corrupters” by the preacher.

About women, this preacher “quotes hadiths stating that a man must close his eyes when he meets a woman, and that the source of all evil comes from women “, also specifies the ministry. The preacher also quotes hadith recommending the “corporal punishment for those who do not respect religious precepts for thieves”.

Also according to the Interior Ministry, Al-Mohammedi further calls “Muslims to leave non-Muslim countries to be able to respect the precepts of their religion” et “not to share anything with non-Muslims”.

Beauvau argued that these comments “held in 2020” were similar “Clearly encouraging separatism and community withdrawal”.
