Coronavirus: Ghana’s hotline records over 1 million prank calls


The 112 hotline, which was set up to help Ghanaians quickly report suspected cases of coronavirus, has been shaken with strike calls, the Ministry of Information said.

Spotted in a statement by YEN.com.ghA total of one million, nine hundred and two thousand, nine hundred and twenty-six (1, 902,926) calls were found recorded between January 28 and March 16, 2020.

Of this number, only 15,801 were real emergencies, while the more than 1 million calls were only a matter of prank.

Sandra Frimpong, a minister’s communications specialist, said that the ministry is not satisfied with the development.

The ministry will also launch a training and awareness program to educate Ghanaians on the subject.

In the meantime, Ghana’s confirmed coronavirus cases increased from 63 to 132 on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

78 of the cases were confirmed among the Ghanaians who were quarantined by the government.

In a similar development, President Akufo-Addo said that the government is considering options before deciding to block them to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

In addition, the national chief Imam has asked the police to arrest an Imam or Muslim who violates government orders to ban the public gathering.
