Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted on Wednesday, December 29 by a New York court of a series of sex crimes, in particular that of trafficking in young underage girls between 1994 and 2004. The former British socialite, now aged 60 years old, had been tried since the end of November by the Manhattan federal court on six counts. She was found guilty of five of them, in particular that of providing minors to her former companion, the American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in August 2019, for him to sexually abuse. She faces decades in prison.

After 40 hours of deliberations over five days, “a unanimous jury found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of one of the worst crimes imaginable – facilitating and taking part in the sexual assault of children “Manhattan Federal District Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. “Very disappointed with the verdict”, his lawyer Bobbi Sternheim announced to the press his intention to appeal.

Those “crimes were committed with his lifelong partner and accomplice, Jeffrey Epstein”, who committed suicide in a New York prison in August 2019, before being tried for sex crimes. “The path to righteousness has taken too long. But justice has been served today”, welcomed the prosecutor, greeting the “courage of the girls – become women”, four victims who testified for three weeks against Ghislaine Maxwell.

“Jane”, “Kate”, “Carolyn” and Annie Farmer, 42, the only one to speak without a pseudonym, have exposed parts of their lives damaged by forced sex with Epstein – including sex massages – while ‘they were between 14 and 17 years old, often in Maxwell’s presence.
