Gigabyte releases BIOS for ‘next-gen’ Intel processors

The company has released a BIOS for its 600 and 700 series motherboards that includes support for “mysterious” next-generation Intel processors. Well, for the LGA-1700 socket, the main candidates are the Raptor Lake Refresh.

We have devoted several articles to a Meteor Lake mobile processor with 16 cores / 22 threads in recent days. Unfortunately, according to the latest information shared by leakers, this 14th generation of Core will remain on a mobile platform, Intel having decided to skip the Meteor Lake desktop. A new BIOS from Gigabyte for LGA-1700 motherboards tends to confirm this abandonment.

On May 31, the company released a BIOS whose primary goal is to fix a vulnerability that allowed hackers to download software without validation. Only the 3rd point of the description mentions support for new generation Intel processors. The company doesn’t specify which lineup it is, but the only plausible candidate for the LGA-1700 socket is Raptor Lake Refresh. According to rumors, Intel would launch this series next September. In addition to higher CPU frequencies, these Cores would support higher memory speeds. Current motherboards should support these processors, but motherboard manufacturers would also offer more efficient Z790 motherboards, offering Wi-Fi 7 and 5 GbE ports in particular.

Intel Innovation 2023: which products could be formalized?

At the same time, Intel announced an Intel Innovation event on September 19 and 20. The company had presented the first 13th generation Cores, the Raptor Lake-K, at Intel Innovation 2022 (which took place on September 27 and 28) – as well as its Arc A770 graphics card. Inevitably, we expect the company to do it again in 2023 and formalize several consumer products.

In addition to Meteor Lake processors for laptops and Raptor Lake Refresh for desktop PCs, Intel could announce new Arc Alchemist graphics cards, or even the Battlemage generation directly. An unofficial roadmap released a few weeks ago mentioned an Alchemist+ series for the end of 2023 and the first Battlemage GPUs during the second quarter of 2024.
