A 3-year-old girl nearly died after consuming almost a quarter of a liter of whiskey, causing alcohol poisoning. The incident occurred in a house located in the Casco Viejo sector of El Tigre in Anzoátegui state.
The little girl who was with her 7-year-old sister, both in the care of her aunt (one under 15 years old and pregnant), apparently in an oversight of the relative they took the bottle and the smallest ingested the liquor causing a “momentary alteration of consciousness”.
Relatives, realizing the situation, transferred the girl at a fast pace to the Roque Dalton Comprehensive Diagnostic Center (CDI) located in the Campo Oficina sector, later she was sent to the El Tigre General Hospital where they performed a gastric lavage.
Kleiber Martínez, main counselor of the Council for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Cpnna) in El Tigre, said that they went to the house where the girl resides and found family dysfunction.
The authorities imposed a protection measure to monitor and protect the integrity of the infant, despite the fact that no type of physical abuse was evidenced.
