Third and fourth place in the rating defended Mikel Landa (+0:44) and Joao Almeida (+0:59), who finished sixth and eighth respectively.

The Czech Jan Hirt from the Intermarché team clinched the day’s victory ahead of Thymen Arensman (Netherlands/DSM), behind them the Stars sprinted for third place, just under a minute and a half behind the winner.

Kämna came in 1:38 minutes behind daily classification crossed the finish line and climbed to 20th place overall. “Today was definitely a very good day. I felt good, tried everything and I don’t think I made any huge mistakes. And when other drivers are stronger, then you shouldn’t worry,” summed up the 25-year-old.

Emanuel Buchmann had problems 14 kilometers before the finish and lost contact with the group around the pink jersey, he finished 14th (+4:11) and is now eighth in the overall classification (+4:45).

Also falling behind in the battle for the podium in Verona was Domenico Pozzovivo, the Italian who fell during the stage and is now sixth (+3:48).

Up to the Valvico di Santa Cristina mountain classification (1448 meters), he bravely defended his lead of no more than a minute against his former companions for a long time, until Hirt overtook eight kilometers from the finish and started his victorious solo.

“I don’t know if the win will change my career. I always said I always wanted to win a Giro stage and then end my career. But I don’t want to stop just yet,” Hirt joked after his first Grand Tour stage success.

The Dutchman Koen Bouwman (Jumbo – Visma) defended the blue jersey of the best climber, Arnaud Démare (Groupama – FDJ) is still at the top of the points classification.
