The 19th Giro stage on Friday is the third last chance in the fight for overall victory – two mountain finishes and the final time trial are still to come.
Today the course first heads north and then with a detour to Slovenia in an arc around Udine to the final climb. After the flat start, four mountain classifications await, two in the 3rd and two in the 1st category.
The toughest chunk is Kolovrat in Slovenia with a ten kilometer climb at almost 10% gradient – even if this mountain is only 1145 meters high, it will be extremely difficult.

The final ascent to the Santuario is seven kilometers long and has passages with gradients of up to 14%.

The lead comes over the pass and Bouwman wins here too, this time ahead of Schmid, Tonelli and Valter. The Giro is now back in Italy from Slovenia and the gap between the field and the leaders is falling below eight minutes. Bora leads the peloton with Kelderman, Kämna, Buchmann and then Hindley.

Wilco Kelderman (Bora-hansgrohe) now increases the pace a bit in the field and the group is getting smaller. At the front, Tonelli has caught up with Schmid, Valter and Bouwman again.

The steep ramps uphill now ensure that the remaining field thins out badly under Bora-hansgrohe’s pace work. The gap to the top is just under nine minutes, Tonelli falls behind there – a trio are still in the lead in this climb.

The difficult climb begins and immediately the leading group falls apart! Clément Davy, Fernando Gaviria, Eduardo Affini and Edward Theuns have done their day’s work and fall back from the leading group on the first few meters of the climb. The mountain classification of the 3rd category is completed, Koen Bouwman wins it again. The blue jersey will dress the Dutchman all the way to Verona. Slightly sloping terrain now – and the field still controls the 12 leaders with a deficit of eight minutes.

Bouwman wins the 3rd category mountain classification, which means that victory in the special classification is almost impossible to rob him of. In the field, Bora is now almost full team strength in front of the field, only Patrick Gamper now has to let go uphill. The gap is now just under nine minutes.

Welcome to the live ticker of the 19th Giro stage!
The first 65 kilometers after the start in Marano Lagunare run flat in the hinterland of Friuli. The first sprint will take place in Buja after 55 kilometers. Then in Villanova Grotte (3rd category: 3.7 kilometers; 8%) and at the Passo di Tanamea (3rd category: 10 kilometers; 5%) vertical meters are collected. The following descent leads across the Slovenian border.
The hardest climb of the day is the Kolovrat (1st category: 10.3 kilometers; 9.2%). From there it is another 34 kilometers to the second sprint in Cividale del Friuli, where the final climb to the Santuario di Castelmonte (2nd category: 7.1 kilometers; 7.8%) begins. The stage is a total of 178 kilometers long.
