He is always one step ahead. Remco Evenepoel announced last October that he would reveal his choice of whether or not to participate in the Tour of Italy in January. The 22-year-old prodigy has however confirmed his presence at the start of the next Giro from this Wednesday, November 30. The reigning world champion posted a video for this, relayed on the social networks of his team, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl.

Pogacar licks his chops: “It’s going to be fun”

Evenepoel did not mention the Tour de France, in this message recorded from Italy, where he is carrying out reconnaissance. But everything suggests that we will have to wait until at least 2024 to see him at work on the biggest race in the world, given the difficulty of the Giro-Tour sequence. Especially since he will be under enormous pressure, on the occasion of his first Big Loop, hence the interest of approaching him fresh.

Remco Evenepoel will therefore be, barring a glitch by then, at the start of the 106th Tour of Italy (May 6-28), at Fossacesia Marina. He will find terrain that suits him, for three weeks, even if observing his ability to chain efforts at more than 2,000 meters in altitude will be very interesting. The argument that must have had the most weight in his eyes was the presence of three lap times, for a total of 70.6 kilometers covered in the time trial.
The winner of the Vuelta 2022 will not discover the Italian grand tour. He had experienced a painful contact with races of this type there, in 2021. Almost nine months after a serious injury following a fall during the Tour of Lombardy, Evenepoel had taken over the Giro. His shortness of breath was all the more logical, as the race progressed, and he had not taken the start of the 18th stage.
