In its latest online keynote, Sony lifted the veil on several new games, while using the event to reveal new gameplay footage from several highly anticipated games.
Final Fantasy XVI (PS5, PC)
It was the big surprise of the event, Sony has unveiled the first trailer for the next Final Fantasy, which will likely be released exclusively on PC and PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy XVI takes a little more distance from the old episodes of the series by immersing the player in a more realistic medieval-fantasy world and by offering gameplay entirely in real time. No release date yet, but you probably shouldn’t expect to see it land until 2022 at the earliest.
Hogwarts Legacy (PS4, PS4, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series)
Another announcement that nobody was waiting for: that of Hogwarts Legacy, an adventure game in the Harry Potter universe developed by the Scandinavian studio Avalanche, at the origin of Just Cause and Mad Max. The project promises to be ambitious to say the least, with a vast universe to explore and a majestic achievement. Hogwarts Legacy will be launched on both current and next-gen. However, it will not be an exclusivity.
Spider-Man Miles Morales: A Gameplay Sequence (PS5)
Sony of course took advantage of the event to unveil a third demo of a game exclusive to the PS5. After Gran Turismo and Ratchet & Clank, it’s Spiderman’s turn to show himself in action for the first time. The title will be released exclusively at the end of the year on PS5. It is a continuation of the first part while seeing things bigger, with even more nervous gameplay and more delirious action sequences. It will accompany the launch of the console in November.
Call of Duty : Black Ops Cold War : une première vidéo de gameplay (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series)
Expected at the end of the year, the next episode of the Call of Duty series will be released on current and next-gen. It will offer a game experience very different from previous opus by plunging us into the cold war. A first gameplay video of the title was presented during the State of Play. Like the previous sections, this episode should also offer a Zombie mode.
Demon’s Souls – A First Gameplay Video (PS5)
One of the others excluded from the launch of the PS5 was also entitled to its demo. Demon’s Souls, the Souls-like remake that had marked a complete generation of players, should be available at the end of the year exclusively on PS5. The alterations here should be mainly aesthetic, the developers not having touched the gameplay or the concept of the game, which was released initially in 2009 on PS3.
God of War (PS5)
But the big surprise of the show, it will remain the announcement of a new God of War on PS5. No gameplay footage was shown. Sony was satisfied with a slogan “Ragnarok is coming”. The title should be based on the solid foundations of the previous part and focus on Nordic mythology if we stick to the announcement. Good surprise: it will be released in 2021 already.
In short also:
- Devil May Cry 5 will get a reissue on PS5
- New Five Nights at Freddy’s Episode Coming to PS5
- Several PS4 titles will be well playable at launch on PS5. Sony has not yet specified the full line-up, however.
