Asuncion, IP Agency.- President Santiago Peña stated that the integration of health systems is one of his government’s primary objectives to decentralize health care and ensure it reaches all regions of the country.
An example of this initiative is the collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Institute (IPS), which allows insured individuals to receive treatment in areas lacking social security coverage. Additionally, IPS medical centers are providing care to non-contributors, enhancing healthcare accessibility across various regions.
These agreements are currently being implemented in multiple locations, significantly improving access to healthcare services nationwide.
The president emphasized the necessity of enhancing medical care, particularly in strengthening the IPS. “Today we have the Health Fund, which is a deficit fund,” he remarked during his visit to the newly established short-stay ward at the Psychiatric Hospital.
The government’s philosophy promotes coordinated efforts between various entities within the health sector. “This integrated system and network-based approach will provide the necessary solutions,” the president stated, reiterating that no single institution can tackle these challenges alone.
This collaborative approach extends to other sectors, such as social services. “I have restructured the Social Cabinet and assigned responsibilities with the intention of fostering teamwork. I believe this will lead to improvements in social indicators, as evidenced by the decrease in poverty and extreme poverty levels in recent months.”
New Hospitals
Further developments include new hospital projects, notably renovations and the construction of a new National Hospital in Itauguá, which will offer highly complex care, alongside a reference hospital for Asunción in the Bañado Sur area.
Additionally, two major hospitals will be inaugurated in Coronel Oviedo and Encarnación, enabling a reduction in patient congestion. Plans are underway for a hospital in Chaco and San Pedro, contributing to the establishment of six new large hospitals.
The ultimate goal is to enhance the health system significantly by the end of President Peña’s mandate, ensuring it meets the growing population’s needs across different regions of the country.
On Wednesday, the president convened a meeting that included the inauguration of a new area at the Psychiatric Hospital, along with the installation of two CT scanners at the Trauma Hospital and the Institute of Respiratory Diseases (Ineram).
