Granit Xhaka is bursting at the seams. The Arsenal captain takes his team-mates to heart after Monday’s 2-0 defeat by Newcastle. “From the first minute to the 90th minute, we didn’t deserve to be on the pitch,” says Xhaka at “Sky Sports”.
The 29-year-old is struggling as Arsenal threaten to miss the Champions League for the sixth straight season. The London club are now fifth in the table, two points behind Tottenham, who are fourth in the last place in the Champions League. There is one game left.
“Was a catastrophic performance”
“We didn’t stick to the game plan, we didn’t listen to the coach. What happened was a catastrophic performance,” Xhaka said angrily. “With such a performance, you don’t deserve to play the Champions League or even the Europa League. It’s very difficult to accept at the moment.”
He doesn’t know why the team didn’t implement what coach Mikel Arteta wanted from him. He does not want to accept the relative inexperience of some teammates. “If someone is not ready, they should stay at home. It doesn’t matter how old you are. If you’re nervous, stay on the bench or at home.” It needs people in the field “who have eggs”.
Criticism of Xhaka’s words
Clear edge by Xhaka. And for that he is reprimanded. England ex-stars Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher attack the midfield star after the interview in the studio. “He makes fun of the players in the dressing room,” Neville said angrily. “Xhaka has been a disgrace at times over the past five years! He kept bringing careless red cards!”

Hoping for Tottenham’s fail
The criticism will leave Xhaka cold. Unlike the threatening to miss the premier class. “We’ve waited six years,” he quarrels. “We had everything in our hands.”
But now Arsenal are dependent on the failure of Tottenham. Spurs take on last-placed Norwich next Sunday. Arsenal will go head-to-head with Everton (ranked 16th). (sme)
