The Uster city police had to cordon off the frozen water around the Greifensee at the weekend. Signs were also installed. The reason: many day trippers ventured onto the ice. In some cases ice hockey was even played on the frozen surfaces, reports “Radio Zurichsee”.
“The thickness of the ice and the depth of the water underneath cannot be estimated. Even shallow water can be dangerous, especially for children, if it breaks in, ”says Andreas Dambach, deputy commander of the Uster city police.
Another problem: According to Dambach, the areas are in the nature reserve. “You disturb animals and birds that need rest in winter.” In addition to on-site patrols, the police also warned the population on Twitter to stay outside the nature reserves.
