Gulf News Pfizer and Biontec are asking a European agency to approve their vaccines for children between 12 and 15 years old

The German vaccine manufacturer Biontec and its US partner, Pfizer, submitted a request Friday to the European Medicines Agency to approve the use of their vaccine to vaccinate children and adolescents from 12 to 15 years old.

The two companies said the move will include adapting and extending the existing approval to include the younger age group, and increasing the number of people receiving the COVID-19 vaccine – as this comes as part of a broader effort to help build herd immunity in the European Union.

So far, the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine has only been approved in the European Union and the United States for people aged 16 and over.
