Wellington The Central Bank of New Zealand claims to have been the target of a hacker attack. Unknown had gained access to an external file-sharing platform that the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) uses to transmit and store some confidential data, the central bank announced on Sunday.
The extent and type of information that may have been stolen are still unclear, said RBNZ Governor Adrian Orr. “But there could be some economically and personally sensitive information.” A good year ago, the RBNZ warned that the number and scope of cyber attacks in the country were increasing. In August, the operator of the New Zealand exchange was the victim of a hacker attack.
