The three-time title holder called Lewis “neguinho” several times while discussing the incident on British Grand Prix-2021. The term has an offensive and racist connotation in Brazil.

The Mercedes driver responded to a tweet from a user who wrote: “What if Lewis Hamilton tweets ‘Who ##### is Nelson Piquet?’ and then closes twitter.”

“Just imagine,” Hamilton responded, after which he clarified his position.

“It’s not just about expressions. We need to change this archaic thinking, it has no place in our sport.

Such moods surround and haunt me all my life. There was plenty of time to draw conclusions. It’s time to act,” Lewis said.

“Let’s focus on changing the mentality.”
