For the Cuban outfielder of the Atlanta Braves Guillermo Heredia, the 2022 season has been totally different from what happened in the previous one, which ended with the golden brooch of the coronation in the World Series against the Houston Astros.

The man from Matanzas has had a year in which he has not been able to stabilize his performance and that has not only had him more time on the bench than usual, but it has just brought him an even worse decision by the board of the current champions .
According to the official report of the Braves, “El Conde” was lowered to Triple-A (Gwynnet) by Chadwick Tromp, and will thus return to the Minor Leagues. In 2021 he was briefly at that level (3-1).
Heredia barely compiles for .138 (65-9), with only six RBIs and three home runs, plus a .211 OBP and a .549 OPS.
His most recent game was on Aug. 3 when he went 1-for-2 with a strikeout against Philadelphia. He hadn’t had official action as a hitter since July 24 against the Dodgers (he, too, went 1-for-2).
It is true that his numbers in 2021 were not extraordinary, but there were moments in the season that he was very constant, which gave him the opportunity to play a good part of the route (.220/.311/.665), along with five homers and 26 powered.

Now not even the aspect of how much he contributes emotionally to the team has allowed him to remain on Atlanta’s starting roster.
The joy for Heredia of having one of the closest Cuban players on his team, closer Raisel Iglesias, who recently joined the Braves from the Angels, lasted very little.
In seven seasons, the member of the Cuba team for the 2013 World Classic has participated with the Mariners (he debuted with them in 2016), Mets, Pirates, Rays and Braves.
Although this decision is not yet conclusive, for Heredia a red light is turned on for the immediate future. Shattering Triple-A will be key to regaining trust, whether from his team or from another organization next season.
