Hawaii Five-0 – everything about the series

Since 2010 is “Hawaii Five-0” to broadcast. The two leading actors Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan, who has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role, are an integral part. The series is a remake of the original of the same name, which aired from 1968 to 1980. At that time, the actors Jack Lord and James McArthur were an integral part of the series. Two Emmys were won back then. Meanwhile, the remake is still waiting for one of the coveted prizes.

The US episode titles all have a Hawaiian language name. So it can happen that an episode “Mai ho`oni i ka wai lana mālie” (Season 6, Episode 1) or “Aohe Mea Make I Ka Hewa; Make No I Ka Mihi Ole” (Season 8, Episode 19 ) is called.

In Germany it all looks a bit simpler. In this country, the titles have the usual titles in German. The series has been running continuously on Sat.1 since the first season. As of today (January 13, 2020), the first nine seasons are also included Amazon Prime Video accessible.

Over the years, “Hawaii Five-0” has been a welcome place for guest appearances. Numerous cameos include Evel Knievel son Robbie Knievel, Bob Marley son Ziggy Marley, rapper Xzibit, Steve Urkel actor Jaleel White, comedian Jon Lovitz, comedy legend Carol Burnett, “The Dark Knight” actor Eric Roberts and “Lost” myth Terry O’Quinn. Louis Gossett Jr. was also there. He won the 1983 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in An Officer and a Gentleman with Richard Gere.

However, it is not entirely without scandals. Two of the original actors didn’t renew their contracts because they felt discriminated against: Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. You embodied the investigators Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua since 2010. The series stars of the first hour, who turned their backs on “Hawaii Five-0” after seven years and 168 episodes. They haven’t been there since Season 8. The makers of the series just wished the longtime investigative duo all the best for the future.

For the departure from the producing broadcaster CBS, a dispute was raised by numerous media about the salary mentioned as a reason. After that, Park wanted to be paid the same as their co-stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan – also cast members since episode one. The US broadcaster had refused and made an offer that was between 10 and 15 percent below the salary of the colleagues. A solid scandal that unfortunately tells a lot about the pay gap within the ethnologically diverse lines on US television.

“Hawaii Five-0” is set in the same series universe as “NCIS”, “NCIS: Los Angeles”, “Magnum PI” and “MacGyver”. Therefore, there have already been crossover episodes. In 2012 there was an overlap with the team of “NCIS: Los Angeles”. The human Swiss army knife MacGyver was in an episode in 2017 and most recently they solved a case together with the team from “Magnum PI”.

Incidentally, the film is actually shot in Hawaii. Occasionally it was also shot in Vancouver and Los Angeles and of course work in film studios should not be missing. But with Oahu, Honolulu and the Kualoa Ranch you have fixed locations in the 50th US state.
