“Jeison Rangel simulated from his mobile equipment the charge for his false release” and he sought that “pastors of the different national and international evangelical congregations deposited $ 3,700,” said Conas on Friday night 27-N.
Officials from the National Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Command (Conas) of the GNB detained Jeison Rangel Castro in Machiques de Perijá for pretending that he was kidnapped, as reported by his partner, and he wanted to collect the sum of $ 3,700 to “be released.”
According to Conas, the woman said that Rangel was an evangelical pastor and had been kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday 26-N in the Tinaquillo 1 sector of Libertad parish.
In the investigation, the officials determined that in text messages sent to the “pastor’s” wife – through the WhatsApp application – they demanded the amount of $ 3,700 in exchange for regaining her freedom.
“Rangel simulated from his mobile equipment the charge for his false release using this method to make the pastors of the different national and international evangelical congregations believe of his captivity and in this way they would deposit the required amount,” said Conas the night of this Friday 27-N.
According to military spokesmen, Castro would be a member of a Colombian criminal gang that operates in the border area.
The case went to the Prosecutor’s Office.
