It was what he told him the mountaineer to his wife three days later having left home to go on a mountain route in the Vega de Conde area with the idea of spend a single day in a shelter from the area. Two days after his departure without news, his wife notified the Civil Guard, who sent a patrol to the shelter and another unit to check if that person’s vehicle was parked in the areas set aside for it.

A few hours after launching the operation, the wife manages to contact the man who simply he had decided to stay a few more days in the refuge.

At that moment, the search device is deactivated after the intervention of the GRIM (Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group) and the ANGLE (Helicopter Unit).

Tips if you get lost or have an accident in the mountains

The Civil Guard recommends in the event of an accident in the mountains:

  • Keep calm. This will allow us to have a broader vision of the problem and will prevent us from acting rashly.

  • If there is someone injured, the first thing is to comfort the victim and immediately request the support of the rescue group. It is the so-called PAS protocol (Protect, Warn, Help).

  • In the event that we find ourselves lost or disoriented, if we are in a comfortable place and we can give a clear description of our state and location, the recommendation is not to move from where we are.

  • Always carry a mobile phone and avoid draining the battery with unnecessary calls and deactivating the data connection.

  • Whenever we go out into the mountains we must take plenty of food and drink, warm clothing and the appropriate material for the area where we are going.

  • In case of being lost, we will try to give a description of the route we have followed or the one we intended to follow, what is the last known point through which we have passed and how long ago it was.
