The 2022 National Derby held at the Miguel Salem Ecuador racetrack will go down in history due to the unfortunate incident in which Ecuadorian Jockey Joffre Mora pushed his colleague Luis Hurtado and he fell from his horse.

The race is the third step of Ecuador’s triple crown. Il Contadino had come in second place in the Classic Premiere y won the second step the National Cock.
Mora was riding Il Contadino, while Hurtado was driving Lukaku. The race was bumpy from start to finish, since there were problems throughout the route. The Ecuadorian authorities decided to suspend jockey Joffre Mora for life for this action.
