The Planning Bureau sees inflation peak in February before declining slightly in the following months, but the increase in prices is expected to amount to more than 6% year-on-year up to and including April.
The increase in the “health index”, which is used, among other things, to calculate the indexation of salaries, social benefits and rents, would be 4.9% in 2022, against 2.01% in 2021 and 0, 99% in 2020.
At this rate, the pivotal index for social allowances and wages in the public sector, which was last exceeded only in December 2021, would again be reached by the smoothed health index in February 2022. We have to go back to 1982. to find traces of two crossings of the pivot index in such a short time.
If this is confirmed, social benefits and salaries in the civil service would be adapted to the cost of living, in other words increased by 2%, respectively in March 2022 and April 2022. The following pivot index (116, 04) would not be exceeded in 2022, still estimates the Planning Bureau.
The latter will update its inflation forecasts on February 1.
