The WhatsApp messaging application has revealed that it has solved two security flaws in its application. Despite this, both bugs still affect older versions of WhatsApp and no one knows how long these bugs have been present.
The first resolved flaw would allow a hacker, after making a special video call, to remotely execute malicious computer code and then install a virus or even take control of the device. A problem classified as “critical”, the highest level of threat, with the disturbing score of 9.8 out of 10.
The other bug exploited the sending of a corrupted video to also inject malicious computer code with a threat level described as “high”, i.e. a score of 8 out of 10. The firm of the Meta group assured the American media TechCrunch that there was no evidence that these two “bugs” had been taken advantage of by hackers.
To be sure not to be affected by this computer attack, the application therefore advises updating WhatsApp as soon as possible. They are generally automatic on Android smartphones as for Apple iOS.
If this is not the case, you must go to Settings on Android and Settings on iOS, then the Help and Info section of the application, which will display the latest version installed.
