WITHtwice down, once up: This is how the current Corona data from the Robert Koch Institute for Hesse is. As the FAZ learned from the police, people stay in the regions affected by the new 15-kilometer rule usually due to the limited radius of action. This is supposed to limit contacts and help contain the virus.

From this Tuesday onwards, the country is writing to non-residential seniors over 80 years of age for the upcoming vaccination against Covid-19. But if you want to make an appointment, you have to be patient: the hotline and the website for registration are overloaded. Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) asked for patience. It is about a group of more than 400,000 people who could now all make a vaccination appointment, he told Hit Radio FFH. “Of course, no call center in the world can do that by receiving them all at once.” Hessen has increased its capacities based on the experience of other federal states. “But in the end you have to say that you will certainly need a little patience,” he said according to dpa.
The RKI, which is responsible for combating the epidemic, reports 524 new positive corona tests after 641 a week ago. To what extent this is also due to the possible delay in reporting by the health authorities, which are still enormously burdened with work, to which the RKI had always pointed out in the past few days, is unclear. Both numbers are well below the daily high of 3224 from December. In addition, the RKI has recorded 75 more deaths in connection with Covid-19. Last Tuesday it was 104. The daily high is 134. The comparisons of the
On the other hand, the so-called seven-day incidence rose within a week, i.e. the positive corona tests among 100,000 residents that were received within a week. Here is a value of 157.2 for Hesse after 131.1.

Another hotspot is the Fulda district with 333, followed by the Limburg-Weilburg district with 273 and the Vogelsberg with 264. This is followed by the Gießen district with 237 and the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, which exceeded the threshold of 200 overnight and is now also on the black warning level according to the escalation concept of the country (see grafic).
People in Hesse over 80 years of age can secure a vaccination appointment from this Tuesday, they should get the first injection against the corona virus from January 19. “As before, a high number of transmissions can be observed in the population in Germany. The RKI estimates the overall health risk in Germany to be very high, ”the institute further emphasizes.
In the districts of Gießen and Limburg-Weilburg, people from now on have to observe the limited radius of action of 15 kilometers. Because in both circles the so-called seven-day incidence has been above the critical 200 mark for days. As a spokesman for the Central Hesse police headquarters said, the law enforcement officers have not yet found any violations of the 15-kilometer rule. The situation is different with regard to compliance with the curfew. Again and again people in the district of Giessen violated it and therefore had to pay fines.
In the district of Gießen, in discussions with the FAZ, people mostly showed understanding for the new requirement, but some pointed out that in very rural areas freedom of movement was too restricted. In Vogelsberg, the 15-kilometer rule comes into effect on Wednesday at the earliest, in addition to the night curfews and all-day public alcohol bans.
The district of Fulda also introduces the 15-kilometer rule after initial hesitation: “The aim of this general decree is not to regulate the everyday life of our citizens,” said the district administrator of the district of Fulda, Bernd Woide (CDU). Rather, it should be prevented that the district becomes a hotspot for supra-regional tourist activities. “The general decree is one aspect, the decisive one is still the blocking of a large number of parking spaces and access roads on weekends in the Rhön.”
The 15-kilometer rule applies not only to citizens from the district, but “for all people who undertake day-trip trips in or into the Fulda district,” the message said. In order to check compliance, there will be random checks. The head of the health department, Frederick Schmitt, explains the reasons for the high incidence: “The vast majority of infections mostly occurred in the private sphere or very often in the same household”.
The vaccination teams have given almost 6,000 other people in Hesse since Friday a preventive injection against the corona virus. This is based on current data from the Robert Koch Institute. 8.6 out of 1000 Hessians have been vaccinated so far. Schleswig-Holstein and now Bavaria in the west as well as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as the leader of the table (15.6) and Saxony-Anhalt have a higher proportion. However, Berlin and Bremen as well as Saarland are ahead of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate is catching up and comes in at 7.3. That is a tenth below the federal average.
Hesse over 80 years of age should be vaccinated from January 19 and can secure an appointment from this Tuesday. In addition, the country will soon be sending vouchers for FFP2 masks to people over the age of 60. Younger people with chronic diseases can also enjoy it. Around 168,800 of the 310,700 people in need of care are 80 years or older. 127,400 people in need of care aged 80 and over did not live in care facilities, as reported by the State Statistical Office.
